Georgia Milestones Writing Assessments
Georgia’s performance-based writing assessments are administered to students in grades three, five, eight grades. This assessment tool provides feedback about each students individual performance when it comes to the organization of ideas and sentence structure.

Writing is one of the most difficult task for most students to achieve successfully.  One reason for this difficulty is the fact that writing has been an area of the curriculum  that has been ignored for many  years in some of  our schools. Just recently, the schools systems have integrate more writing exercises into the curriculum.

As a mode of expository writing, the narrative approach, more than any other, offers writers a chance to think and write about themselves. We all have experiences lodged in our memories, which are worthy of sharing with readers. Yet sometimes they are so fused with other memories that a lot of the time spent in writing narrative is in the prewriting stage

Third Grade Writing an Expository Essay

The Expository Essay

An expository essay attempts to explain the subject to the audience. This may be accomplished by explaining a process, comparing or contrasting two items, identifying a cause-effect relationship, explaining with examples, dividing and classifying, or defining. Depending upon the particular type of expository essay being written, the order of presentation of supporting details may vary. The process essay will employ chronological (time) order; the essay which compares or contrasts, explains with examples, or divides and classifies may use an order of importance (most-to-least important or least-to-most important); the essay which employs causal analysis may identify a cause and then predict its effect or start with the effect and seek to identify its cause.
